The marketing function is becoming more complex, and as this continues to happen, marketing strategy needs to adapt from using a traditional and predictable waterfall approach to using a more agile, adaptive approach. Similar to the agile software development methodology, an agile marketing method would focus on small teams with low overhead, and projects would be grouped into sprints.

Agree with Andrew, this slide deck is fantastic. Scott Brinker has clearly put a lot of thought into how marketing is evolving/will evolve based on the emerging opportunities and challenges facing all marketing organizations. The stat up front the 96% of marketers agree that the pace of change in marketing and technology is accelerating shows the urgency organizations feel to adapt.

Adapting in small companies has always been easier. That's why I think the concepts behind growth hacking emerged from newer companies. I've often wondered how larger companies can/should adapt. These slides offer excellent guidance.

I'm really excited to be working with Scott as an advisor on his Marketing Technology Conference in Boston in a few months. http://www.martechconf.com/

These are fantastic - but they don't cover long term agile planning - any ideas how to do that?

This... this is good - thx for sharing! There are definitely some intriguing thoughts in there that are very (!) relevant not only for marketing, but related fields like PR and - maybe - sales, biz dev. as well. However, I'd add that agile should mostly used to leverage tactics. When it comes to strategy dev., strategic planning and strategic messaging, too much agility might have its perils.
