I've noticed that ML will show a portion of an article and then have a CTA to view the full post on SEL.

For e.g., http://marketingland.com/improve-seo-user-friendly-interlinking-222300 leads to http://searchengineland.com/how-to-improve-your-seo-with-user-friendly-interlinking-280653?utm_src=ml&utm_medium=textlink&utm_campaign=mlxpost

They clearly belong to the same umbrella organization. So why do they do this?
Does this create more internal links and aid SEO or is there some other reason for doing this?

Personally, I find this approach to be a terrible user experience because many times the full post doesn't have much more (useful) content than the first part.

Content/SEO gurus - what's your take?

    Two benefits:

    1. Content is Content - Technically you do not want duplicate content but it isn't really because the pages are different (i.e. one full article, one summary).
    2. External/Internal Links - More links the better, whether internal or external.

I think they are run by the same people, or they have some sort of agreement I mean they do it for backlinks of course. But you're right there a reason for sure bro.
