Hello, i would like to ask why some famous blogs like http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/ which is a blog about socialmedia are not using social share button. Do they have a strategy behind that decision?

Not sure about the others, but specifically, SME does use social share buttons - they are available on individual article pages on the left-hand side. I suspect others are doing the same thing.

It's a different question as to why they don't display those buttons next to the article snippets on the home page as social proof. It just may be that most of their traffic comes via individual articles and/or they may have found that people who come directly to the home page will click on articles irrespective.

As a growthhacker i don't find any reason to not use social share buttons. I think that a blog only looses growth with not using them.

Best practices are just that - there are no absolutes.
If they've tested sharing buttons on their home page and it hasn't led to any change in behavior and/or deteriorated the user experience then why have them there?

I personally can't think of one good reason I would share any article on any site just on the basis of a preview snippet. I would only do it after reading the article and determining if it is shareworthy. So from my perspective, the sharing buttons are exactly where I would expect them to be - on the article page itself.

Can you share screenshots of what you see?
I don't see social share buttons on their home page blogs - so could just be a test.
I still see what I used to see a month ago - social share buttons on individual article pages.
