ours is a single web page SaaS product, and we don't have any tracking tools in place yet.

    We use Amplitude.
I know of others that use KissMetrics/MixPanel.

Picking the right tools is a very important part of being able to answer the right business questions to effect your growth. Segment.com is a great foundation for identifying users (and their traits) and tracking the events they complete (and the properties on their events). Amplitude, Mixpanel, and Kissmetrics can all be "turned on" within the Segment dashboard, so you could technically try them all out durning their free trials. All of them require some understanding of Javascript or server side API hooks to get the most out of them. Mixpanel is the easiest to get basic information, but it doesn't provide the power for cohorts and ad-hoc reporting that are available in Kissmetrics (and to some extent Amplitude).

hi Ryan thanks for this! yes definitely require cohort analysis which seems to be a strength of kissmetrics. How is segment.com? Have you used it, do they have reporting on cohorts?

    +1 for Mixpanel.
I've been experimenting with KissMetrics, but didn't like that.

Mixpanel & Kissmetrics come with the same feature-set. Kissmetrics is claimed to be web, Mixpanel is claimed to be mobile, but in reality, both are great for web&mobile, too.
I go with Mixpanel, because their UI is more user friendly and because they have great support. Kissmetrics' support is poor - in my experience.
