What motivates you as a marketer? What makes you excited to jump out of bed in the morning? Is it a particular challenge? Good company culture? An inspiring boss? It would be great to learn more about why people enjoy the day-to-day experience of being a marketer?

Working really hard to realize the market potential of a product, especially one that provides something of importance to the people that need it. I love looking at the data as a measure of progress against that goal.

Thanks everyone for your interesting comments! Seems like there's some pretty strong themes around the ability to experiment and learn, and the satisfaction of being able to measure results. They're definitely 2 things I also value. I also really value the balance you can find in marketing between left-and-right brain activities, collaboration, and creating campaigns (or content) that so many people see. I could add more, but they spring to mind right now.

Freedom in experimentation and implementation as much different stuff as possible.

I realized recently that no one knows what works and what doesn't work. So the only way to find 'silver bullet' is to implement as much different experiments, campaigns, offers, etc) And it's the thing that motivate me every day)

Having the chance to try out a lot of different stuff. Being able to measure success / improvement is also another main reason too.

Experimentation with constant iteration is what I love most about marketing. Being able to utilize my passion for connecting with users, business strategy, and data analysis is something completely unique to marketing. I love implementing a new initiative, tracking the progress, and being able to understand the overall impact on business success.

An attitude that even our assumption is completely wrong, this effort is a huge failure, we've learned something and we're getting closer. Working with a team that can celebrate failures, take the credit for them, report our learnings, and try something else is wildly rewarding.

Like others have mentioned, the ability to experiment and try new tactics definitely keeps things interesting.

But I specifically love the creativity involved in that sort of innovation. I am a creative communicator at heart (with degrees in English and Journalism), so having a career that involves determining the best ways to connect with audiences is the job I've always dreamed of having without even realizing it!

What motivates me the most is learning in this fast moving world. Marketing keeps evolving, which means for those that are curious and pave the way to explore and learn new channels and tools eventually win.

It's also a huge motivation to see results of your marketing efforts.

OK so my reasons may seem a little weird, for which I apologize in advance

I love being a marketer for 2 reasons:

1: I love to help people. Usually I'm helping businesses grow OR I'm helping that businesses customer as that product then enriches their lives in some where

A core passion is simply helping that small business go from "oh shit" and worrying about bills each week..to suddenly having campaigns where x investment is equal to xx return so they can now just relax and get some peace of mind in their business

To me thats huge and possibly part of my previous experience/upbringing

but the 2nd reason is a little different

2: I want to be able to help people, when they cant do it or dont know how to do it

    Let me explain
Some people see marketing as manipulative and to an extent I suppose it is

We leverage an emotion to cause a reaction that results in a purchase

But the problem I see is often that most people dont take the action they know they should and that they might even WANT to, and instead live their lifes wishing

Most of the time, people simply dont act as they should or want to act, and so I try to use marketing to make that action happen, because I KNOW that it can change their life with this product (Its why i'm picky about who I work with)

    For example

I have NO PROBLEM at all working with gyms because the resistance to exercise
The habits that pull you back out of it etc thats some really hard stuff to deal with and get past

So I will happily build campaigns that manipulate ppl to take and keep taking an action, simply because it will change their lives in a hugely positive way

But for some reason our minds are wired not to want to live longer but instead for the next chocolate bar etc

I'm not against the chocolate bar at all, I love it. But I also know that struggle, and so from learning sales and marketing I know and can relate to how hard it is to make these things happen...

Which is why I also love marketing

Yes it can mean its manipulative and yes it can seem like a dictatorship where I'm choosing to say who I work with because of what product I think a customer should have in their life
But we all have that ability when we do this job, I'm just trying to be better at it to help people

Told you I was a bit of a weird eh :D

"The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up.”
Imagination is everything as, if we can imagine a future we can create it and if we can create the future, in turn others will live it.
This is the essence of success.
Marketing has always fascinated me since my undergraduate college studies and now I'm right here trying to do my best to push my company up in the market. I love marketing!
