What are the key milestones every marketing team should target when building from startup to enterprise?
From product market fit to sales goals, what are the key milestones that your marketing team aims for to ensure they are continuing to provide value for your business?
I suppose this is dependent on your company, product, and/or sales funnel - not to mention, company stage. Also, it can be easy to mix up milestones with goals. I view milestones as the objectives that need to be reached to make progress toward an end goal. To determine these key milestones, I would start at the end goal and then work my way back.
Completely made-up example: Justin's Energy Producing Fidget Spinners
End Goal: Increase Sales of Spinners by 20% with Positive ROI
Milestone #3: Optimize campaigns and drop COCAs to 50% of LTV of customer
Milestone #2: Launch Facebook ad campaign; learn what audiences perform the best at mid-/bottom-funnel
Milestone #1: Research & install necessary tracking and sales conversion tools
The above example is vague and probably not relevant to your company, but it shows how to look at your goal and create your key milestones from it. Here is a quick list of some of the milestones we aim to hit that provides our clients with the most value:
1. Positive ROI on new acquisitions whether lead or sale
2. Continued growth of new conversions with focus on cost effectiveness
3. What has been learned and how can we improve
There are more than just three, of course. Most of my clients have already performed the "early stage" marketing initiatives like product market fit so most of my goals and milestones are conversion and sales based.
