Hey hacker friends - I recently created a simple landing page for an email course. It's hosted on my personal WordPress site and I'm using a standard full page template. It's currently converting at about 15%. You can view it here: http://robertgibb.me/free-remote-job-course/ I like the minimal approach I took because it didn't cost me anything to do and it's easy to manage and edit - I just log into WordPress site like usual. That said, I might be missing out on some of the benefits that services like LeadPages and InstaPage offer. Have you used these services? Do they make a big difference? Or can I implement some best practices on my current page without using these services? If so, what might those be?

I've used unbounce (and my team still does) for this and it definitely makes it easier for testing - particularly spinning up multiple variations very quickly and having surface level tracking automatically set up with each version. It's also relatively easy to integrate with more advanced tracking solutions. I assume LeadPages and Instapage are also really easy/cheap to set up and optimize for results.

+1 @sean - What I like about Unbounce is how it automatically splits traffic to the different variations. You can push different traffic sources to different landing pages but you can't be a 100% certain that the results you are seeing are reflective of the landing page variation and not the traffic source or targeted audience.

Unbounce is a little pricey at $99/month but it is worth the expense once your conversions increase.

If I were you, I'd definitely went on my own. With a variety of guides on how to create a website available on the web ( be sure to check out this one https://www.templatemonster.com/blog/create-website-2017-ultimate-guide/ ), you can easily create a powerful and professional looking website, including a landing page.
