Here is the hacker news post https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11846108 I got some initial popularity (2000 signups) and hope to leverage that to get even more. For example i was thinking that journalists might want to write about it knowing that it already has done kind of proven success.

I think that's the wrong focus.
You got new signups - that's awesome. Now focus on them.
Understand whether they get the value of your product after signup.
Understand whether after signup people continue to use your product or not. Understand how and why they continue to use (or not).
Understand how and why they might tell other people about your product.
Ultimately understand if you are delivering some value to your users or not.
Your goal should be to get to product/market fit.
Once you're there, then focus on getting noticed and more press etc.

I agree on Medium article. Here is an example of similar situation:

Sure that could work - you can also right a medium post on how you got 2000 signups on hacker news - those tend to do well and become viral - then use that post and pitch journalists with it.

Thanks, I think I'll do that :)
