So, it's THAT time again. I have some ideas and would like to put them in writing. I used to run different blogs "back in the day," but I never put enough stress on the analytical part of the whole experience.

This time I would like to change it and treat the whole experience as a training ground for skills I currently don't posses.

My question is: How do I make sure my BLOG is ready for 2016 marketing?

I have bought a .com domain, I've secured a server and decided to work with Wordpress. Already got the theme installed.

- What are some useful plugins (both paid and free).
- How should I approach SEO (what works, what doesn't).
- How to set KPIs for my blog? How do I measure them.
- How do I retain my readers?
- What are some good content strategies you guys used to acquire new users, retain the old ones and monetize your fanbase?

I would like to keep this thread alive and write monthly updates on how this whole "blogging" experiences works out for me :) Hopefully, together we'll be able to help other people new to blogging too!

Cheers,
Albert

    - What are some useful plugins (both paid and free).
Plugins will be required social media sharing, database backup, security, maintenance, optimization, speed, landing page creation or page builder, upgrades or popups to start with. I have done with www.businesslabs.org and have been using 8 plugins on topmost and all are free.

    - How should I approach SEO (what works, what doesn't).
Search keywords directlyin google search console, consider checking alternatives suggestions by google.
Keep consistency in writing and publishing.
Try to educate as much as you can on the certain problem area of your customer.
Before that you will need to make your customer persona and then start research of keyword, plan a topic, research the internet (google is your friend) and write.
Just after you publish, wait for 24hours and then share with your email addresses of all your linkedin connections, already subscribed ones, share in your FB page, tweet it, G+ and also share in GH.com

    - How to set KPIs for my blog? How do I measure them.
    If you are at 0traffic.
If i am you, i might have done like this:
    First 3months - 1000 visitors
    Next 3months - 1000 subscribers with 5k visitors
Next 6months - 5k subscribers with 50k visitors and 2% conversions from subscriber base.

    - How do I retain my readers?
    give value.
once you produce something valuable, let your readers know that you have something valuable.

    - What are some good content strategies you guys used to acquire new users, retain the old ones and monetize your fanbase?
Once you post in blog, use taboola and outbrain to syndicate, use facebook post boost to get some eyeballs.
I have not used anytime budget of more than $1000 monthly includes ad spends, content production, content social marketing

At Inzite, we love ghost. It's a great modern platform offering good plugin capabilities. There are also loads of great themes out there, both free and paid. They have thought a lot about SEO and marketing over social media is also catered for, as all posts offer great meta tagging.

Totally not interested in something I can't fully control. That is why I've chosen self-hosted Wordpress page. Now, let's talk how to get this running properly.

      Thanks for the suggestion though.
