I work for an edtech company - www.activelylearn.com - and we are going to dedicate serious resources towards a blog/content marketing strategy. We will create a new home for our blog at 'blog.activelylearn.com'. Any recommendations for easy to use blogging platforms that are effective with regard to content marketing and capturing/converting inbound traffic? Thanks!

Just use self-hosted WordPress. The hard part of this isn't getting/implementing a CMS - it's creating a content planning, production, and promotion machine.

The biggest advantage of WordPress is that when you have guest contributors or freelance content creators (which is likely), almost all of them already know WordPress cold and you don't need to teach them how to do formatting, insert images, etc.

It is also free. And there's lots of cheap/free plugins available that will help you capture leads, integrate other tools, and do whatever you'd like.

Matt - Thanks for the quick response. All great responses... and thank you for re-iterating the real difficulty of Content Marketing :).

Along that subject... here's a great article I recently found that discussed a great strategy to engage and recruit 'influencers' to boost the reach of your blog content!

Wordpress is the most widely used and has a very rich plugin community that can make things easy for your dev team. Your ability to convert will be based on the quality of your content, traffic you are attracting, and offer of your product or service. Pretty much all of the platforms will provide you with what you need to convert but it would be up to you and team to build it.

I'm using Wordpress... I'm pretty sure many people will suggest it too...

Lots of useful plugins, resources, easy templating system, easy editing...

I agree that Wordpress is the way to go. So versatile and can be used for everything from blogs to premium membership sites. Almost tempted to suggest alternatives just for completeness, but that never helps. Just go with wordpress and forget about it.

As Matt said, focus on your strategy.

Wordpress is definitely the way to go. It offers you such a vast variety of features, through plugins and themes, and has a huge developer community.

Thank you all for your comments. Appears as though Wordpress is the clear winner. We'll be going with that.

I agree going with Wordpress has a lot of advantages for this type of site. Tumblr also seems to host a fair amount of company blogs. Anyone have experience using Tumblr for this?

I would say Octopress is the best pure blog out there. We use octopress at robogrowth and love it. If you want a CMS wordpress is the way to go.

Wasn't aware of Octobpress. Thanks for sharing Travis. For our purposes, we will go with WP.
