Ask GH

It is well known that people tend to 'see through' user elements that appear in the same way or location on every blog or website. Upworthy, Buzzfeed and other successful 'share-based' sites literally surround their content with big social share buttons. Can any GH's recommend any good plugins along these lines?

You can use the Simple Social Share Buttons Plugin that will help you integrate the Social Share button with your blog post or page to share the content on different social media platforms.

My biggest issue with share buttons is that they tend to slow down your site. They often load a Javascript file, an icon font for the social brand icons, a CSS stylesheet, and sometimes an additional JS file for analytics. With the Page Experience algorithm update on the way, it's becoming difficult to justify the addition of 4+ files to each page request.

For that reason, my favorite social buttons plugin is Scriptless Social Sharing: https://wordpress.org/plugins/scriptless-social-sharing/. It uses SVGs for the icons (no font), inlines the CSS, and doesn't load any Javascript. This makes for 0 file requests and a negligible impact on performance.

The styles are fairly basic, but you could add some CSS of your own if you wanted to animate the buttons or add more color to make them pop on the screen.

Ok i think this one is pretty cool - it's like the big ones on Mashable and not dissimilar to Upworthy:
