Ask GH: Which startup do you admire the most for building buzz during pre-launch?
Spotify when it came to the U.S.
Thank you! I'm going to check out Robinhood.
While anticipation is certainly welcome, setting unreasonable expectations comes with an inherent risk. Over the last year however, the buzz accompanying the robinhood service offering transaction free stock trading is the most memorable in my mind.
I'm still thinking about the app Color. It was a huge failure but everyone was talking about it when it was only a project that a lot of investore backed. Here is a good article from Business Insider: http://www.businessinsider.com/color-app-2011-3?op=1&IR=T
Thanks! Let's see if I can learn from their mistakes
For their vertical famo.us had a number I don't recall but I think their list of real developers wanting their platform was 100k. That's real developers and it was a closed list no one had source code yet for the JS engine. Very impressive for what's essentially a library!
I think Slack's execution was perfect in terms of Customer Acquisiton. Though they had long pre-launch period.
The Grid is crushing it right now. Over 33,000 paid* sign ups pre-launch is very impressive.
