Does this irritate you? :-)

You find a great article to share with others that will be beneficial to post and discuss with the community.

You post the article, come back an hour later to check out the discussion only to find 6 posts by the same person above your own, directing traffic to their site.

You have been boardjacked, what gives?

I've noticed that when users do that, their posts are often off-topic or low quality. So in a way, they're spamming (and not just boardjacking)?

Generally I would agree, multiple successive postings all from the same domain are a good sign of spam. We try to get this off the site quickly, though it's still a manual process and definitely not perfect. Identifying specific patterns would help us figure out methods to automate some of this.

Thanks for posting this Earl. I'm eager to hear what the community thinks. Just to clarify a bit, is the concern over the fact that some members tend to post multiple articles in succession? Or is it more of a spam issue where the posts are all from the poster's own domain?

Hi Dylan I guess I would sum it up in this way:

      "Think of others before yourself"

How would the person that posted something before myself feel if I came in here and filibustered him by posting a bunch of different links to my blog? (pushing their content way down the screen)

Am I considering that person before myself?

Really it's about common sense, but sadly common sense is not common much anymore, and we have to codify things and live by rules instead.

Honestly there are some great things posted here, I come by all the time to learn new tricks and tips. Some folks are here for self promotion/validation while others are here to absorb and imitate. (I would hope to be found in the latter).

Overall I'm very thankful for the resource!

      Much Peace :-)

As a coiner of terms myself, I'm loving your word "boardjacking." Agree that it seems like there could be a simple rule not being able to post multiple times in a row to a single domain.

Lol, not sure there would be much use for boardjacking.com but I would love to write a headline for it!

"Too many friends? Learn how to lose friends fast using our newest, PROVEN method: BOARDJACKING! "

Read our 287 page eBook on how to annoy your soon to be ex-friends! All this for an incredibly low, dime per page... $28.87

          Testimonial:

"I used to get all of these party invitations, everyone loved me, I mean it was ridiculous. Heck, I didn't have time to play Xbox in my parents basement anymore, now everyone hates me! Thanks BOARDJACKING!!" ~Bryan Basement Atlanta, GA

Maybe it should be called "board hacking" instead.

I think Earl means what Nichole said above - and I've observed this as well.

When it's happens, I've noticed that it's because the submitter has posted at a time when the moderators (which I believe are entirely based on the US West Coast) are unavailable.

So while the content is taken down quickly once the moderators are available, it means that there is (potentially) a good 5-8 hour window during which this issue could be prevalent

From a US East coast perspective, when this issue occurs, the homepage of GH could filled with low quality content that doesn't start to get pushed down until others start posting more recent content - but that is not a solution by any means.

As someone who frequents this site AND is on EST, I can attest to everything you've said here. Stated perfectly.

Thanks Earl and Anuj! Sean's idea is what we've discussed internally. I'll talk to him about pushing this up the product dev roadmap.
