Ask GH: How successful has a Product Hunt front page result been for those who made it?
What kind of traffic does it generate? I wanted to gauge the kind of quality it can deliver, minus the hype.
Your best resource for this is likely http://makersuccess.com/ maintained by Eric Willis
If you're a "maker" on PH, you can join this community for more specific information: http://beta.makermeta.com/start/0943451682 (also done by Eric)
Thanks much Anuj. This is so very useful. Never knew this existed.
Guess it's part of my job to know where stuff is (if it exists) :D
And Eric's a great guy - reach out to him if you have specific questions on any of those resources.
Love you guys. :)
Mani. Yeah, as Anuj mentioned, I think you'll find everything you need on makersuccess.com. Otherwise, you can tweet me to discuss more @erictwillis
Anuj - Thanks for sharing makermeta! I posted Sunn's stats however registered users wasn't applicable since we aren't live yet and I did know what rank meant so I put in a 1. What's the ranking metric?
Duolir (duolir.com) was approved on the 31st of December which meant a great start of the new year.
Initial feedback started arriving. Mostly from friends, family and everything else networked on Facebook. Reaching out to app blogs etc, the average site visit was hovering between 5 - 10 visits per day. Being featured by some well known Dutch websites showed peaks slightly above 50 but would quickly come down after that.
My point is, Duolir was relatively unknown outside of The NL.
Sunday march 23 someone posted Duolir on ProductHunt. It was dead last in the top 10. I only notice on Monday because the website visits on Sunday was over 900. On twitter others are discussing us etc. In the days following it started to come down but is still higher than anything seen before. And yes it definitely improved sales though there's plenty of room to grow here.
There are still visitors coming from PH but we need to do more proper marketing. Oh this is all while bootstrapping. No dedicated marketer or team for that matter. Hope to resolve that soon since I'm no good at this. Looking for help and suggestions if anyone cares to weigh in.
After we were posted, Final made it to the 3rd highest of all time.
Here's a post I wrote with some useful insight - https://getfinal.com/company-news/2014/10/23/why-product-hunt/
My product (VisualCV.com) was on the frontpage of PH last October. It was a huge catalyst for doubling our monthly signups.
Directly it added just 2,300 signups, but squeaking onto the front page led to some huge press articles in Saudi Arabia (!), which now accounts for a significant % of our paid users.
It led to by far our biggest weekend. And while spikes are great, the "intangible SEO" effects were relevant. After the spike our traffic leveled off at almost 1.3x what it was the week before. Hard to know if that is a correlation or causation, but overall it was super positive.
We were also number 1 last month which led to a similar spike in users and a slight bump in overall organic traffic.
Here's a post I wrote on the subject.
The post we wrote about Caliber speaks more to the quality of the traffic - high conversion rate, engaged audience. It also includes a not from Ryan concerning how many people they sent our way (6,868 visits).

Here's my Medium writeup on HERO Keyboard being on Product Hunt (it was 7th on a Friday): https://medium.com/@coreywstone/failing-on-kickstarter-a-success-story-9a130f82d2c6
Sunn's google analytics snapshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1o2gjv9s2ay4cam/productHuntTrafficSunn.png?dl=0
Sunn received 147 upvotes and 2,178 users: http://www.producthunt.com/posts/sunn
I have had two products on Product hunt.
First one was http://www.producthunt.com/posts/weekendhacker which did pretty great but thats also a free service. I think I gained around 300 signup from that.
The other one was http://www.producthunt.com/posts/ghostnote which did give me traffic but not as much as https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9145007 which I was on the same day.
Bliss.ai was in last place (2 weeks ago) most of the day and even buried in the 'show 1 more product' and we still got 1,500+ uniques.
I wrote a blog post on how it feels to be in last place on Product Hunt here: http://bit.ly/blissfailonPH
thanks for posting!
PieSync was featured on Product Hunt yesterday (http://www.producthunt.com/posts/piesync). We've gathered 146 upvotes before the end of the day and where - except for the last hours - part of the top 10 the whole time.
According to Google Analytics, 1386 PH visitors clicked through, resulting in 2656 pageviews. We've tripled our number of sign-ups that day.
We've got a lot of attention from other start-ups in Belgium and received one important partner request due to the attention on ProductHunt.
We still see higher traffic than usually, although we're not featured on the front page anymore.
dunno if this is helpful, but I published all our PH stats on medium today. goo.gl/YdQEUv good luck if/when you get hunted!
This is my story + stats at the end: https://medium.com/@bramk/how-i-launched-the-2-most-upvoted-product-of-all-time-on-product-hunt-f3772fb20ad8
35k uniques and 230k pageviews in 48 hours :)
Lingvist launched its mobile apps on PH in the beginning of June. Our lessons and what traction it generated are up on our blog: https://lingvist.io/blog/2015/06/10/thanks-from-the-lingvist-co-founders/
