I received a couple of responses over Twitter. Joseph ran PR at LogMeIn and I trust his opinion a lot...

Why not still shop it around -- if you get a better offer, take that offer. If not you still have VB

take the non-exclusive gig that's on the table now, then shop for more outlets and revisit later.

From my experience as a journo I would also think about whether you have a compelling story, beyond the fact of securing seed round funding to offer. Often there is a story right under your nose!

Thanks Stuart! I believe we do have a story, but not entirely sure what's the best way to present it to the press. Any chance I can send you my press release to get your insight? Would greatly appreciate your advice.

I agree w/Stuart. The news isn't so much the money, the news is either a validation of the work you've been doing (so showcase the effects of that with a great customer story, or validated by trend data, etc.) or a bet on the work you will be doing (what's coming up with the product, how are you changing the world for the better with the money, etc.)

I think that you can go to a reporter who covers your space with a compelling story about results or milestones you've achieved for you/your customers, or a compelling vision story and exclusive interview w/your founder/ceo to discuss it, you could get some bites. (Even better if you tie your vision/investment to a trend that matters to the journalist.)

I think even if you're in this roundup, you'll still be able to get some coverage if you can package the fund raise as not the main news, but as validation of something more important to the journo, and some exclusive content/insight, such as an interview w/the CEO/founder, etc.

        My 2 cents.

Thanks that's certainly what i plan to do. We will also be launching our mobile web soon which will be a huge milestone so hoping to get more coverage then, for now I guess I'll take what's on the table!

From a brief review of roojoom (as per a time poor journo in search of a story) I would be interested in an example which 'dramatised' the impact roojoom can make.

Maybe this would be a better headline: "Roojoom gets your audience hooked on your content 5 times longer with its ultimate web presentation tool"?

Sure, but why not try to convert that capability into a 'story', where the result of that greater engagement delivered by Roojoom led to something amazing!would be interested in an example which ‘dramatised’ the impact roojoom can make.

    Hey Yael,

Thanks for the question. I personally don't have the expertise to answer this question but calling on some others who may be able to help. I will say this, VentureBeat is big time and gets tons of visitors. So a relationship with them in any sort of fashion could be helpful. Hope someone chimes in soon!

Since it's not "exclusive" I think it's fine. I would quickly try to line up some others as well. I'll forward your question to a couple more knowledgeable people than me about this stuff and hopefully they can answer too.

Guys thank you so much for helping me make a decision! I really appreciate your quick response and effort.

So now that I took the offer, any creative ideas on how to get some more PR for my news?
I just heard back from a reporter on TechCrunch but he said he would only be able to look into it next week.. guess I shouldn't hold my breath for it. Who else is known to cover startup funding news?

Roundups never do well, nor get any traffic. Find somewhere else to take it, use VB as a fall back.

Thanks Morgan! Thing is they want to do it today, and I am worried that if I don't take it I will end up with nothing. Also, do you think it would prevent someone else to cover it if it had only been featured in the roundup?

So here is the mention on VB, thank you all for helping out! Will keep you posted on how it turns out :)

Guys thanks for everything! TechCrunch didn't care about the VB roundup and did a whole article about us :) http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/04/roojoom-seed/

That's great Yael; and in the UK there's a nice ad for my @holidaylettings apartment running to the right of the piece :-)
