Ask GH: Any recommendations for good blogs on psychology/sociology?
Looking for psychology/sociology blogs or marketing blogs that incorporate psychology/sociology concepts into their posts consistently.
Ramit Sethi has done quite a bit of writing on the topic of consumer psychology and how it plays into social marketing and entrepreneurship. Definitely check out his blog if you're interested in the topic: http://www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com/blog/
This was also the subject of a similar question on Quora a couple of years back. Check out this link for some other suggestions and feedback on the topic: http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-best-blogs-on-consumer-psychology
That Quora post is gold, thanks!
No worries Andrew! The discussion thread has a really great balance of perspectives - one of the reasons why I love it!
Fantastic, thanks Aaron!
I can also highly recommend Ramit! He is a master in psychology! I bought some of his courses which are top quality material.
Nir and Far is a must-read if you are interested in customer behavior. @nireyal is absolutely incredible. http://www.nirandfar.com/about
I was surprised no one had mentioned Nir and Far's blog, it's awesome.
I had never heard of that one.
It's always so fun to find a new resource that's so awesome... :)
Thanks for sharing!
I'd add @ciotti's blog: http://www.sparringmind.com/. Awesome blog by an awesome blogger. Highly recommended
Derek Halpern - Social Triggers.
One of the best bloggers on using psychology to drive conversions and sales.
He is about to launch a course on this subject. Highly recommended!
Robert Cialdini is the Yoda of persuasion and his blog is a *must* on this list:
Not a blog, but I recommend you check out the "Psych Insights for Modern Marketers" podcast from Kevin Rogers and John Carlton.
It's mostly tailored toward direct response copywriting, but they have some great discussions on consumer psychology. Easily one of the most valuable podcasts out there.
I'd recommend http://www.thewebpsychologist.com/. Includes great podcasts.
Here are my favorite psych or marketing books:
- Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience --Csikszentmihalyi
- Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion -- Cialdini
- Social Physics: How Good Ideas Spread --Pentland
I also blogged about some of my other favorite books here: https://medium.com/@jsfour/10-books-that-changed-how-i-see-the-world-8d8591fd8638
It is not really a blog, but it is a great resource of persuasion technics.
The Wheel of Persuasion is created by fellow Dutchman Bart Schutz, and contains a lot of persuasion technics with the scientific explanation and A/B test examples.
This is an awesome post - some really useful links - some I hadn't heard of before.
I would also add:
Nathalie Nahai http://www.thewebpsychologist.com/ @TheWebPsych
