I have this client that has hired me (presumably for my expertise) and then just wants to argue about every tactic they come across on the Internet. The latest is that they want to just randomly start slapping 'RE' at the beginning of their subject lines. After our conversation where I tried talking them off the ledge about this, I gathered up my notes and wrote this quick article in case anyone else is in the same boat. Hope it helps!

I HATE when salespeople do this. Nobody likes being taken for a fool.

Yeah and all other related tactics like "Follow-up" when there has been no actual conversation beforehand.

I've also noticed people now emailing me with the subject line: "Chameleon integration" (my company is Chameleon) as a way to SELL me something!

Another annoying recent tactic is when the subject line is referencing a product I use. E.g. "Intercom partnership" and it's just talking about the sellers relationship with Intercom.

As the article says, even if I open the email, I'm immediately annoyed at this attempt to trick me. I hope everyone is like that, and then it'll cut down this behavior.
