This article discusses traditional CDN, dedicated CDN and security CDN approaches, as epitomized by Akamai, Amazon CloudFront and Incapsula, respectively. We’ll look at the evolution of the different models, their advantages and disadvantages, and the ideal type of customer for each approach

I agree - security-based CDN is the way to go, especially with my sites bombarded by DDoS attacks (mostly basic, but very annoying at best, still.)

Bloggers need security, too. So many hackers were trying to break into my site it was affecting the entire server from Friday night until Sunday night. We added a pop-up to protect the login page and that seems to have fixed it for now. Already had WordFence running. But I've been considering using a CDN - just concerned with overage charges.

I love to read comparisons of different services while choosing on of them. This is a clear, and unbiased comparison of these 3 best CDNs. Amazon Cloudfront looks good to me.
It's always good to use CDNs on your website as they improve the loading speed.

It's an interesting industry and certainly the future of the web... Serving content from one place is getting old and vulnerable... I had no idea we had so many major players there actually...

Well, I learned something new from the post.
I think CDN choice heavily depends on the company needs.
I don't run a big business, but if I did, one of the factors to influence my choise would be the high speed and performance.

I've never heard of Akamai before. I wish they had included MaxCDN in their comparison.

I'm familiar with the fact that the CDN can improve the site speed and the features of a popular CDN network, MaxCDN. For the first time, I'm hearing about Akamai that seem holding awesome features. Different types are CDNs are well explained here and I prefer the one with the great security features.

Thanks for sharing this helpful post Erik.

Was surprised not to see mention of Fastly. Was at the Google Cloud conference a couple weeks back and their presentation was outstanding. Unlike CloudFront which is proprietary to AWS they have built their CDN in close integration with the Google global network but it is not confined to Google Cloud platform users.

Their customers are a lot of popular webscale businesses.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I spoke with a representative today from Instart Logic. They are offering a new CDN: A "Software-defined Application Delivery." Anyone had any experience with their service?
