We often hear teams delay improving their user onboarding because “it felt too big a project”, or “it required a cross-functional team,” or “engineering is focused on delivering new features", leaving the project sitting in the backlog.

User onboarding doesn’t actually have to be this painful, long, or complicated. With the right tools, and a simple framework, it doesn’t even require any significant engineering time! Use this simple & easy to follow checklist to help you launch your user onboarding in just a few days.

    Hi Olivia,

good thoughts and sharing! We are planning and discovering in how to implement the onboard process here in our company. I`m leading this mission!

I would like to ask you if you have some benchmark in terms of metrics that the onboarding got in the business? EX:"Like DAU (x% more) , retention (y% more retained users in 1 day,..), Dau/conversion (z% less)"

Would you mind to share this with us?

Thanks Gabriel! Love that you are building out onboarding for your company! Way to go!

Also great question. The potential impact user onboarding can have on your key KPIs varies drastically between industries and products, based on company size, product complexity, platform, onboarding tactics, etc.. Therefore it can be counter-productive to seek out benchmarks, because most likely they will give you a false sense of confidence or a false sense of danger. The best thing is to use your own baseline and work towards improving that.

Start by looking at your current conversion funnel to get a baseline. This will also be a good time to test whether everything you want to track is instrumented and measurable (and if not, then to start tracking it -- if you're looking for analytics solutions let me know! Happy to can recommend some).

Hope this helps and good luck with launching your user onboarding! Super exciting time! Let me know if you run into any other questions :)
