Great story of how Wattpad founders took an unfocused approach to building their business.  After the first year they only had a few hundred monthly users, no funding and no meaningful revenue.  At that point they decided to let the business grow organically while they focused on earning an income.

    I generally recommend that new network effect businesses either raise a lot of money (to buy them time) or no money (to avoid pressure to waste it trying to grow). This is a great example of how a patient approach can lead to a very valuable business.
