Bob and Jake pulled off some awesome growth hacks to get national media attention and millions in traffic.

They now have a whole staff to do this, but it all started with just the two of them working out of Bob's attic.

It's a great rags to riches startup story. And in lean startup fashion I keep editing this article to continually improve it. So it should be getting better. Plus there's the full hour and a half long video of the event at the end, if you really want more of the story and the full Q&A session.

A great story of a Technology-Sales partnership and how working together brings value to Clients and the result is Win Win. A True bootstrap where they worked without pay and build something.

Great post, Michael. I really like the details on the origin story here. Bob just MC'd our ASCEND Summit last week, so now I've got a few more things to ask him about. Keep the killer stories coming.

Thanks, Hunter. Bob has been a great supporter and inspiration to the Philly community. And you and Aweber have been doing some really cool stuff too, like ASCEND. I'm looking forward to even more success stories around here.

"All it took was seven years of hard work, a validated idea and being in the right place at the right time"

Seven years of hard work! That is my favorite part and puts things into perspective.

I know many people who leave their jobs to pursue their "startup" idea only to have it go south very quickly. Especially at Google, everyone was always talking about people who left to start a company and I don't think many people realized how hard it is & how much time it takes, especially if you are doing it yourself without funding.

I think that if more people came in with the expectation that "Yeah, maybe after 7 years I can do it - if I'm lucky!", tested their idea while holding down a full time job, people could remove a lot of the short-term pressure on themselves and think long-term

Love to see how an entrepreneurs natural curiosity can build so much traffic! Seems like they exposed a major scam - do you think an article like that might help raise the profile of my business?

Great read, and even better read in the linked post. I'm always amazed by how affiliate marketing has managed to stay so below the radar even though the industry generates such huge wads of cash.
