What does Email Automation mean in 2019?

It seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it? Email automation is simply automatically sending out emails in response to an action. There are countless use-cases we could mention - create an account and we'll send you great deals, buy my amazing thing and I'll send you an invoice immediately, sign up for our newsletter and we'll send you the best advice every week. Essentially, it boils down to one thing: when someone does something, they automatically receive an email. It's easy to reduce email automation to the action of scheduling automatic email sends, or its ability to send personalized emails to multiple people at the same time.

Truth is, limiting 'email automation' to one particular process severely undermines its true potential. Neither of the definitions above are inaccurate. However, both fail to acknowledge that the term encapsulates a far more powerful phenomenon - one that can impact, fasten and optimize every stage of an email marketing campaign.
