Mike Sonders reverse-engineered the website traffic of the 50 most successful public SaaS companies in the U.S. - with hard data - to answer the question: What are the best sources of traffic for SaaS companies?

And he didn't stop there. This post goes on to answer:

- How well can organic traffic convert to leads?

- What is the most scalable way to generate referral traffic?

- How important is an organic social media plan? And more.

CMOs, Growth Hackers, and all other Marketing Managers reading this, time to get your notebook out and take a 15-minute break to read this and chew this data down to the bone.

It cracked my heart to hear about SM traffic not REALLY being worthy.

But I think that can just help narrow focus. On a broad scale, these companies might not be optimizing their social media targeting, and it leaves an opportunity to be more thoughtful about your social: are you hitting the right channels? Are you getting in front of the right people? Are you just sharing cute pictures of dogs, cause people will like it?
