If you always thought that Negative SEO was only about links - think again!
Very interesting post. Thanks. I have seen some negative SEO in the past that was an exploit of Panda, but not an exploit of user experience. In a few years time, even a small firm with 3 staff will need to pay SEO's 30k p/a for the effort involved in their rankings...
Yeah it is getting a little bit crazy last few months. Especially with Google not communicating very well with webmasters recently.
This kind of goes in line with my thinking that click through rates are or are slowly becoming a bigger ranking factor for Google, even more than links.
Scary when you can easily set up a bot for these kind of results, and even if bots are prevented from doing these kind of things, you can easily set up a Mechanical Turk task to get real people on computers to do this kind of behavior to modify front page click-through stats with almost no footprint (other than the Turk task itself).
We will see how it goes. Yandex was really open about that and they've dropped links as a ranking factor for commercial queries. I hear it works great for them.
Very good post on the topic!
Very insightful post - definitely learned a couple of new things about how negative SEO attacks can be targeted. Thanks for sharing, Bartosz!
Useful experience. Nice research!
I've been trying to work out for ages what caused my site to drop from first result to page 3 on a local search term. This gives me a few more ideas to explore. Thanks.
