Mobile devices have completely evolved the way customers search, engage and buy.

It’s indisputable that every business in existence must bake ‘Mobile’ into all aspects of marketing in our touchscreen-obsessed era.

So, if your potential customers are glued to their mobile devices, be sure to use these techniques to memorably connect with these people on the move, at any time.

I know I'm annoyed when I visit a website on my phone and see it isn't optimized for mobile. It's inconvenient.
Great post. Lots of need to know info if you want to reach your audience. I like how you broke down which gadgets are used and why. It helps to know how to set things up strategically.

I still see websites not optimized for mobile too.
It's amazing! We're in 2019, and it's since April 21, 2015, Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm that's designed to give a boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google's mobile search results.
Business owners and webmasters of not mobile optimizes sites are missing quite a lot of opportunities.

YES! 😱 And yet, it's still happening in 2019, Dana! #FACEPALM

I'm glad you loved all the info here — It's quite a difficult topic to communicate in a simple way, so I'm happy it did the job.

Strategy is *exactly* what is needed when considering Mobile Marketing! 🙏

Some marketers either just jump right in or confuse the term entirely...

Thanks for reading + sharing your thoughts!

Hi Sam, wow, what a bunch of great information to take in. I do notice more and more traffic from mobille via GA but I love the tools you have used in this one to find out even more information and how we can use it in our marketing to our customers. Great information and it makes me wonder if desktops may really go obsolete in the coming years? Thanks for sharing all of this with us.

I love to learn about new tools from Sam's posts.
I want to test Hotjar, Qualaroo or Customer Thermometer, to check if my visitors are satisfied with my site's content and services.

      Hey Lisa!

Thanks *so much* for this — There is certainly a lot of data to be extracted in GA, but the advanced tools come at a premium for a very, very good reason. 🏆

The additional automation, personalization and data gained from them is insanely helpful. You just know the brands you are utterly impressed with are using tools like this to provide awesome experiences to their customers! 💞

I believe desktop computers will always be around — I couldn't imagine corporate companies using anything else in their offices, hehe! 🤔😆

      You rock,
      Sam :))

Hey Erik! Great share right here my friend! Yes it is very obvious that mobile tech is everywhere, just take a look around LOL Everywhere you go you will see someone with a phone in their hand, So Absolutely Mobile Marketing is a MUST!!! Right?

Sam sure did an awesome job with this post, sharing so many different software tools and apps that can help us track what is going on with our sites. It certainly is a different world that's for sure.

    Thanks for sharing

On my side, I'm proud to say that all my sites are mobile-friendly.
But there are plenty of tools to paly with and useful to engage with users, on the mobile side. There's always something to learn about marketing!

      Hi Chery! :)

Cheers for your awesome feedback — I hope you have fun looking into all those tools. 👀

They are extremely powerful! A marketer's treasure trove to unlock cross-device measurement, for sure...

      Times move fast, don't they?!

The gap between laggards and innovators is truly widening in the marketing world — I believe we'll start seeing a wave of entry-level SaaS enter the market to make it easier for everybody to track one person (what would otherwise be seen as multiple visitors) across all devices.

      Thanks again!

    Hi Sam,

Those statistics about mobile marketing are fascinating, and the ability to track the customer journey across devices is a game-changer.

I'm not a very keen mobile user, although depressingly I agree it's usually within arms-reach and definitely the first thing I use to check online in the morning.

But the idea of the free L’Oréal make-up app and the make-your-own Magnum could very easily convert me. Especially the idea of avoiding expensive mistake by seeing what a make-up will look like before buying. Excuse me now while I go and test some new makeup looks :-)

The stats are enough to blow any marketer's socks off, right? :-O

Simply: If you're not dedicated to cross-device tracking as a business, you're losing out...

I'm the same as you — Not overly attached to my mobile, but I do use it to research products in bed! (LOL. Just proves how multiple devices come into play, though.)

It's generally such a huge part of our lives today = Prime marketing opportunity.

Thanks again for reading the piece, and I'm glad you found the AR section to be especially interesting! 💅

I am proud to say both of my sites are mobile-friendly. :)

However, I am not doing much in the way of marketing my business (on mobile or otherwise).

I DO see the value in having people use mobile phones to get deals on things, however, because I just went out tonight and saved 40% on a purchase simply by visiting the store's website and getting a barcode to scan when I made my purchase in-store!

I will think about how I can use this concept in my business. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

There are plenty of opportunities for mobile marketing, Lorraine.
But I have to say that having a mobile-friendly website is the least any online business owners should do (and it's surprising there are still not optimized websites, out there).😕

I'm so glad your sites are optimized, Lorraine! (Many small biz owners neglect this essential component. STILL. TODAY.)

As for the marketing aspect, both our buying habits just go to show how much cross-device targeting / analysis matters — your mobile discounts, and me researching products as I lay in bed at night. 👌👍

It's a part of our lives now; which means businesses need to make it a big part of theirs. :))

I'm happy this has given you some ideas!

      Thanks for reading,

Making our business mobile friendly is a clever move. Thank you, Erik, for sharing Sam's post with the community. I would say that it is a great piece of content that talks about mobile marketing which is indeed needed for the business founders. I was wondering with the stats related to smartphones and yes, AR is a cool choice for the mobile audience.

It certainly is essential for Mobile to be baked into every aspect of Marketing — not just added as an afterthought.

This tech is firmly engrained in our lives, so businesses must take note if they want to also be engrained in our minds.

I'm very grateful for your time,

I thought it was vital to nail the definition first (mobile + tablets are so often bucketed!) and then get to the advanced techniques / ways of thinking.

Which concept did you find to be most useful? :))

Kudos for sharing such informative concetps.

Augmented Reality really caught my attention.
I better understand now the whole argument, after reading the details in your post, with examples I've seen in past (Pokemon Go, Make My Magnum).
I confirm the prediction of Scott Belsky of Adobe, via The Independent:
“We believe that Augmented Reality is one of those new mediums that could be as big as, if not bigger than the web.”

How exciting will be our next future? 🤖

I had a feeling you'd say AR. 🤓 Bigger than the web!!

Our future is set to be a wild one, that's for sure...

I believe our reality (as we know it) will be evermore blended with augmented and virtual elements — kind of like in the futuristic films where projections / holograms pop up all around a city!
