By hooking into 3 key points in the user onboarding process we were able to get 10x more users converting than previously.
Thanks for sharing @johnonolan this is an awesome post.
I'm happy to see it too because I'm a huge fan and I figure more conversions = more resources = more features.
Hey @jordanskole - you're absolutely right with that one :) Could have put it better myself. Success with this sort of experiment has a major positive impact on the Open Source project further down the line -- in many ways.
Very cool to see this @johnonolan, keep it up!
Thanks @francovarriano ! Hoping to share much more stuff like this in future
Great post. Makes sense too, the theme editing presumably offers a much greater sense of ownership in the product. It's a step that lets you put more skin in the game if you will. Has given me some ideas for my own app as well :)
Thanks Jason! Definitely - personalisation definitely adds emotional attachment. We're really looking forward to experimenting more with this and seeing what else we can do to make people really feel strongly about their experience during the trial.
In your second graphic (after making the changes) how many of the 884 people that added a custom theme turned into paying customers vs. the 462 people that didn't see the video?
Hey Luke, roughly the same as we measured initially - so around 10% conversion on people who had added a theme during the trial period.
AWESOME article, John!
I have a follow-up question for you -- would you mind shooting me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or letting me know how I can otherwise best get in touch?
Sure thing - done!
Thank you, sir!
Excellent article! Really tangible examples of what to find in data and how to fix the issue.
Thanks Lasse :) Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing great post @johnonolan. That makes sense!
Wow! Nice increase!
Wow, what a fantastic article @johnonolan. I love the use of Intercom to handle the exception to the gamification catching people's attention. Thank you for the tactics and stack chart design!
