Also a great piece and very honest...

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

God the aggression towards pop-ups from the Hacker News community was hilarious/brutal.
Erika Parker
Reddit is the same in this regard.
Amal Rafeeq
The same happened to our website the other day right after we published an expert roundup on video marketing tools.

Did you observe any other traits of HN audience other than what we've described?
Amal Rafeeq
Well, unfortunately, it was like '100+ visitors in realtime' which made our site go down and keep it that way most of the time. So we couldn't really get all the data.
But one thing which we noticed is, most of them checked out our explainer video portfolio and snooped around a bit.

Thanks for sharing. What do you think is a good alternative to pop-ups lead capture strategy if HackerNews and Reddit hate those?
Jan Oršula
I've planned to post my latest article to HN tonight. Obviously, I should wait and think about it, appreciate sharing the stuff that didn't work.
You've written HN audience doesn't like pop-ups. I'd like to ask, what was the conversion rate of your pop up?
Karolina Jasvinaite
I enjoyed your post very much and submitted my article out there. Before - have postponed the pop up! Just like you said! :D
