TL;DR

1. Have no more than 1 link in your email.
2. Include no pictures.
3. Mention the readers name using Merge Tag Tricks with MailChimp or Aweber.
4. Turn off the Rss Campaign. If you want a higher open count, you must type these emails out by hand.
5. Write to the reader like he’s your friend.
6. Don’t go spammy like this: Hey!!!WANT TO MAKE MONEY FAST??!?!?!
7. Write in Traditional Letter Form.

      Hey Anuj,

I agree. You can basically skip the top 50% of the article, head down to the recommendations and then the gold is in the back and forth of the comments section.

While the title is catchy, it's pretty obvious that filtering goes far beyond the components of the message itself to the behaviors and history of the individual user (this seems so obvious writing this sentence).

But I do think the idea of more natural communication, more value, fewer links, is probably a great starting point for revisiting campaigns that are focused on direct response as it's sole focus.

This from Ryan Hache in the comments was interesting:

"Google will start (if not already) measuring the sender based on the number of other gmail users who open / click emails from that sender to determine if it should be spam, promotion or inbox.

"So this means how connected you are to your email list will matter..."
