If you’re serious about getting results from your content, there are 3-steps you need to know:

  • Step #1: Find content with a proven track record of attracting backlinks, social shares and first page rankings.
  • Step#2: Make strategic improvements to that content.
  • Step #3: Promote that content via email outreach (today’s post has A LOT of info on this step).

Looks like a great system. I reckon I'll give this a bash later this month on my blog. It's a lot of work but it feels like a real winner if I put in the time. I guess very few content marketers will actually do it. I'll soon see if I've got the patience lol!

I mean, most of us, be we content marketers marketing our stuff online or some dude who wants to lose weight, can't ever really commit to putting in enough consistent effort- too many distractions! We all want instant gratification and results....

I'm experimenting all over the place right now. I've a new blog and I'm focusing on building my list from zero! Tall order but the process is enjoyable.

Very cool Jimmy. I'm all over it!
You've gotta love it, if you don't you're screwed, right? There's too much slogging if you don't love it. (Whatever "it" might be). "Love is all you need" Some bloke from Liverpool said that a few years ago..... I reckon he was on to something!

Hey Jimmy congrats for the great resource. It looks your website is a bit broken, CSS probably.

Sounds good, Larry. You're right: not many marketers put 80+ hours into a single post like Jimmy did with him.

There's skill involved, but in the end, hard work is a HUGE competitive advantage :-)

Heads up: in the post you said that it was ranking at #2 for its target keyword. It's now at #1. Booya.

Great case study Brian and great work Jimmy. This technique is incredibly effective. If you're trying to rank for key search terms it's a no-brainer.

Thanks Morgan! You're one of the people that executed the strategy best.

The results of your CRO guide speaks not only to the effectiveness of the strategy, but of how the cream does often rise to the top (of Google).

@backlinko really love this technique. What are your thoughts on looking at the most successful aspects of your extremely popular blog post and using other mediums (YouTube video, Infogrphic) to generate even more traffic to your site. I think this is a great way to keep things fresh for not only a user who frequents your blog, but also great for having new users discover your site.

I love this strategy it has helped me grow my little blog to reach some great milestones already with only two pieces of content. I put way more effort into promoting my content now and has paid huge dividends.

I've made it a habit to read growth hackers every morning before I start my work day. Posts like this are the reason why. I had the biggest nerd moment and can't even sit still reading this. Thank you both for sharing!
