Designing a successful freemium product is hard. If users are happy with a free product, what incentive do they have to pay? And if users are not getting what they want, what will keep them from abandoning the product altogether? A well-designed upgrade prompt can be the key to engaging, and ultimately converting, users. Successful upgrade prompts are subtle enough to keep users hooked to the free service, while ensuring that the consideration to pay looms larger and larger with each interaction.

Hey @juliachen - awesome article! We previously ran a freemium model at Wishpond - I have no doubt seeing what these huge brands did to influence upgrades would've helped a ton... Actually just experienced Typeform's pay wall for myself today.

    Let's keep in touch! :)

    Hi @juliachen

We are also working on a tool that works on a freemium model and found your article to be a useful guide to nudge our users to upgrade their plans. Thanks for the nice post.
