First, to truly understand the power of this chart, you have to watch the video about how it works: Video On How This Chart Works

In this video, Google engineer Brett Slatkin explains why all traditional cohort charts are a waste of time and sometimes misleading.

He then shows the audience his new cohort chart that blows all others away.

(I make a predicition that if this chart catches on with marketers, it will essentially replace almost all other cohort charts and become the industry standard.)

Ive seen the video before but neglected to notice that he'd made the charts available

This is just awesome - one of those times i wish i could add more than 1 upvote.
    Instant 'must read' candidate methinks..

The uber-greedy part of me wonders if GH & Sean with all their influence can arrange:
    a) a (or multiple) panel discussion(s) that includes the likes of Ash Maurya, David Skok, Avinash Kaushik, Alistair Croll, Ben Yoskovitz, Christophe Janz etc on these charts vis a vis what they've used/come up with in the past

    b) An ongoing series of one on one sessions with each of them on the same topic.

What an all start line up! I would love/pay to see that.

A part of me still thinks this chart is still too niche for most people. Right now, to get the chart to work, you have to have a lot of raw data and organize it in the correct way. Then plug it in and manipulate it correctly.

Most people want an easier solution.

I would love to see a company like KISSmetrics offer this type of product as part of their plan.

KM does cohort reports, though they're set up a bit different. This bar chart is nice though

Great find, Ben. There's an interesting question about whether those involved in growth should increasingly have the data science and engineering skills to do exactly what you're talking about. It's an interesting trend and one I hope to explore more next Tuesday with Nir. Ultimately, there are different kind of "hacks:" venture, exercise, growth, et. The core root in the Paul Graham-verse, who seems to have popularized the modern definition of the word through his book, "Hackers and Painters," favors the engineers approach, who creates repeatable processes to minimize time and maximize efficiency.

That is an amazing line up. I reference lean analytics regularly and would love to see which other metrics these guys are looking at and how they setup their charts. Thanks for sharing this amazing reference.

    This is so amazing.

I'd love to see the ability to filter cohort by date. Also, I wonder if the data sample set for the layer cake is around somewhere.

I can't wait for the help manual that he talks about to be ready
