My friend had a necktie company. Two weeks later he opened his doors and sold $4,000 of neckties because of what we did on Instagram. Good times.

My favorite part hands down @austenallred was your in depth description of your target customer. It really informed your marketing decisions and moves. Many people just seek growth hacks and quick wins without this level of work and insight. I've subscribed and am definitely looking forward to the next chapter. Great job.

This is great. As I was reading it I was thinking "FollowLiker" bot! I think it's a great point that you bring up about doing it manually first to figure out the targeting before you start spamming Instagram with bot traffic.

I use an Amazon virtual machine that runs through their thin client. You can basically get a windows machine pre-loaded w/office running on your Mac in about 15 minutes for about $15-30 per month.

@aherlambang The more you log accounts, the cheaper it gets. And it gets cheap in the end... Just saying!
Plus, Instagress' UI is way better than FL's.
Instagress handles emoticons in comments, which increases engagement.

You just don't get the "Global settings" with Instagress and posting. I admit it is annoying. But I bet they are working on it

Yes. I like that bit too @morgan . Had to copy and paste it into my list of quotes :-).

Often, we're too eager to automate the process that we forget that there are real people behind all these marketing shizz that we do -- and it is when you do it manually that you get to know them more and maybe even get a loyal following who will follow you to the depths of the earth :-)

This is great... thanks for writing this up and posting it here @austenallred ... especially this part: "Bots do not solve problems for marketers; they just make the processes that work more repeatable."

That said, and maybe I'm missing something, but where you said 'Unfortunately the bot doesn’t allow the “follow-like-like-like” strategy, so it will be per photo/account' can you clarify a couple of things? Did you mean you - or a VA - do that by hand? Use a different automated method? Just don't do it at scale?

And what did you mean by "will be per photo/account" in that context. I could guess, but I'd prefer to hear from you. Thanks man.

I used to do it by hand. I don't have time for that stuff anymore.

Basically the bot lets you say "Find all the photos with the #dapper hashtag and like them all." or "Find all the people who use the #dapper hashtag and follow them all." That's effective as well, but you won't be anywhere near the 25% followback rate that we were reaching.

Really cool article @austenallred - I've seen several cool brands, big and small "exploit" or efficiently utilize Instagram to inquire users.

    SaaS businesses? Not so much.

These tactics can be applied to Twitter. Follows/Favorites. Although favoriting can get pretty annoying if its obvious.

I also wrote a chapter about exploiting Twitter. austenallred.com/user-acquisition/book/chapter/twitter/ - I've never used that to sell a good, so there aren't as many revenue examples, but I can easily drive a few thousand visitors/day with it.

Love how Austen builds a target market profile for necktie targets in IG.
Curious why he didn't mention the name of the Tie company or IG account..unless there was fear of action from IG for using this strategy (the automation portion).

I went through a long research about Instagram and marketing there! Thank for the sharing the ideas here. however, some of the tips are too old for 2018. Based on my research there is some new platform from out there for growing and interacting with the user. Moreover, there are also platforms for influencers to flip their account http://socialtradia.com. Thanks

Great post and couldn't agree more with your point "get in the mind of the people you want to reach."

I've found the "follow-like-like-like" strategy can be applied to many social networks with similar results. The more you engage, the better the response.

I've been doing something similar with twitter — following and then engage in multiple ways. Most of the time this means following someone's account, favoriting a tweet of theirs, then adding them to a list. This gets a way better response than just favoriting someone's tweet and following.

Great read. Instagram is great for community building. I've seen similar results with a baking company. However, I'm a little skeptical about using bots as I wouldn't want to run the risk of Instagram deleting spam accounts and thinking mine was one of them. -- Do you find these people to be engaged on your posted content as well for the long haul?

    Very nice article @austenallred !
Followliker is a very good software indeed, but Instagram has seriously reduced limits to fight against abusive behavior.

On one hand, it is getting harder and harder to promote goods or services on IG.
On the other hand, if you succeed botting/reaching your niche, your not lost in crowd of spammer anymore.

Engagement remains very high on Instagram; Quality over quantity is my advice!

A much better way to scale on Instagram is to pay influencers to post on our Instagram.

I ran a campaign where I wanted to reach fitness influencers on Instagram.

Here are my results from my campaign:

Analyzed 3 million hashtags that used hashtag "#Fitness"

I was able to gather 11,000+ email addresses of people who have their email address in their Instagram profile.

From here, I can do a drip campaign to see if they would be interested in promoting my fitness product.

The target customer definition was really good @austenallred . However, I wouldn't quite agree on using a bot for my markeing purposes. If at any time IG banned the account I would be at a huge loss on my business.

Also, I see no point in using a bot when you have fully organic growth products like Crowdfireapp.com . Using Crowdfire businesses can grow the number of relevant followers and also do important stuff like scheduling ( www.gettakeoff.com ) on Instagram.

    I hope this helps.

Let me know when your book comes out..i'll definitely support you and buy a copy.
