Very well put. As a rule of thumb, I find it easier to start with the big guys in our niche. They've spent countless hours and money on testing the best layout, features, UX, etc. that most customers will have these ingrained in their mind.

Another checklist to add, especially if you're doing a website refresh, is a "to improve" list. Also, keep an eye on random customer emails. You'll need them, trust me.

    Nice post!

    A few thoughts:
    # 14 + 27 - These are the same ("Show Stock Availability"), plus how about offering alternative products there?
    # 25 - This is also beneficial from an SEO point of view.
    # 26 - SEO-tip: also implement schema markup for reviews (https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/review)

On a side note, although I understand you do this for SEO purposes but repeating "[eCommerce Web Design Checklist #XX] " hurts the readability of the article so I'd leave that out.

      Thanks, Steven!

#14 + #27: Fair point. I just thought since they belong on different pages - category and product pages - they deserve to be repeated. And yes! Great tip on product alternative.
      #25: UX + SEO = Perfect
#26: I've edited the post to include a schema markup.

Re readability: Fair enough. I've removed those ;)

      Thanks again for the feedback!

Great checklist, Edward. Can't emphasize how important the checkout stage is. It needs to be fool-proof.
