Here's how you can use the explore tab and algorithm to your advantage on Instagram!
Instagram = gold standard of native mobile product development
This was the perfect solution to all the problems with Explore view:
(1) Once IG grew to a certain level, it was impossible for high quality content from less popular users to surface.
(2) The view became dominated by low quality content from popular users.
(3) As a result of 2, it was becoming less engaging for both new and existing users.
Good insight Michael. Thanks for the comment.
Another strike: major brands started getting involved before there were ever any guidelines or rules of engagement for them. That might have contributed to the low-quality content.
I love the new algorithm. I'm a big fan of it.
Great insights. Thanks!
The new 'Explore' tab on Instagram limits discovery just like Facebook does. It looks like they are using the same algorithm as the News Feed. My POV on the tab is that it skews what you can learn on the network since you only see what your friends like. IMO the world is better than my network and I like to be aware of new things.
It would actually be better if they did a mix of popular posts and posts that my friends have liked. This would reduced redundancy (since when something gets popular multiple people repost) and enable you to follow people from across the world that you find interesting but have no ties with.
We recently updated this article. http://blog.sumall.com/journal/update-did-you-know-instagram-changed-their-explore-algorithm-again.html
I thought I knew all about the new feed algorithm but I was wrong. Thanks for this.
