"...all automation is - or should be - is what we’d do manually if we had unlimited time and resources."

Here he shares a strategy that helps make automated responses seem like manual responses. After continual refinement of this strategy (tailored to his business), he's realized a 90% engagement rate.

Also includes insights about automation in general.

Ha! Awesome... yeah, I sent this as a Christmas gift to my mailing list and hadn't yet published it publicly.

I do that from time to time.

This is a pretty cool "hack" that I really have found a lot of success with, both for my business and especially for my clients.

And not just in SaaS, BTW...

This has some great thinking and ways to put some additional twists on automation to drive better engagement with recipients.

I love the FWD system message play here. Now that everyone triggers an automatic CEO note on sign up, people ignore those just like the overly-designed welcome emails sent before them.

One other thing to add here. New Relic sends emails from their Sales Engineers at various points and simply puts "(not automated)" at the end of the subject line which caught my attention and likely others as well.

    Great stuff here Lincoln.

Great stuff - thanks for sharing. The "Fwd:" is simple, but genius.
