Are you familiar with the user experience quote, “User interface is like a joke. If you have to explain it, it’s not that good.”? While clever, that statement is far from true. User interfaces shouldn’t be complicated, but you can’t expect a new user to understand a new interface without any sort of direction.

    Lots of great info here. I feel like the most important word is "focused." If your efforts are focused on the 2-3 (as you say) vital components, then people will get it. You can't make every understand everything you do, and you shouldn't try to.

    Get them understanding the two or three "stickiest" things about your platform, and people will return often enough to learn the rest at their own speed. I think that's probably the best way of upping retention rates, honestly.
