Zillabyte scrapes the YC companies sites for a look at the tools they use most often.
This is a cool trick, but let me unpack the results:
YC-affiliated A/B testing tool
Tool to monitor web hosting
I'm not sure there's really much of a takeaway from that analysis. Also note that 4 out of 5 of those feature a free tier or a free usage plan, while the last is within the YC network.
The list of perks that YC companies get is insane. They also create instant early traction for other YC companies as new batches come through.
There must be a "Crossing the YC Chasm" moment when you go from YC companies using your service for free to actually needing real world customers to buy in...
Cool scraping example. Will have to check out zillabyte closer.
Most of these are more like infrastructure/web technologies, not growth tools (besides Optimizely). That said, still interesting to see the standards being used. I wonder what the next 10 most used tools are.
Hey @aacook agree that the title was a little off, I gave it a pass b/c I liked the scraping thought process. I would also toss New Relic in the data for growth field. While they started out w/just stack/app performance metrics they're doing more insights now, too.
Also, one of the reasons YC companies will use Optimizely is because Optimizely is part of the YC family (YC W10). So YC companies will get a discount on their services.
All names worth mentioning
