Tools like Ahrefs really help us figure out what we need to focus on and what can make a big difference. For example: tweaking keyword phrases and co-occurrence words on certain pages can improve the chances of ranking, if they already have good high quality backlink profiles.
Semantic words are essential nowadays alongside having a responsive site design and fast page speed. I think that businesses that are stuck in the old ways can only go so far online. They need to be open to change and adapt to the different ways people are using technology.

    Hi Eren,
    Great share!

Content marketing always thrives on our striving to make it better always. Still, we sometimes find that our efforts are not enough and the signs show this up.

Decreasing subscribers counts show we need to have a clear message that our subscribers can relate to.

Great article, I'll tweet it to my followers.

    Hi Dave,

I think there comes a time in all our lives where we could make a few adjustments to our sites. I also believe that our readers/customers get bored with the same ole - same ole so shaking it up a bit could help. Having people Unsubscribe from your newsletter could mean disaster and an immediate adjustment is needed. :)

Thank you for sharing these tips with us. I hope to not fall into the losing category but if so, I'll know how to get amped again!

    Hey Dave,

Content marketing keeps changing and you should keep your pace with the trends. Whether you look for the design or the quality of the content, it should be on the mark.
It would nee a makeover if the traffic loss is noticed.

Hi Anne, content marketing is changing so quickly today and so is Google with their algorithms. One really has to keep up with it all to continue to generate traffic to their sites and generate leads and sales. Promotion becomes very important in generating continually traffic too.

Some people who offer a freebie as a way of getting subscribers should think about updating that freebie every few months... to stay current and continually provide relevant information to their readers/subscribers.

I say this because I have updated the free e-book I give away on Wording Well a couple of times --- 20 Blog Post Must-Haves.

I'm also thinking of adding another e-book to my "freebie" list.

By switching things up, you can increase your subscriber count!

Good things to focus on, but I'd actually focus on step 4 first. So many businesses lack clarity and then throw tons of traffic into a system that's half-broken because they don't know what they're trying to do with it.

I prefer to optimize before focusing on increasing traffic but then again a lot of my traffic is paid so ROI is a bigger priority. At the same, more traffic makes it easier to collect data to optimize further so I guess they work together.

    Hi Dave,

    Good point on story telling.

Give your reader's and customer's needs some serious thought. Then, versus a plain 3rd person recount of tips to follow, weave stories into your content to make it POP.

I lead off many of my blog posts with some exotic travel story of mine because stories sell. People can easily visualize a well told story so all the analogies you share pack that much more power when you are weaving enchanting, entertaining tales.
